Joker Kiing implements a sequential binary decision system called The Key. Each couplet presents a yes-or-no fork based on observable gemstone properties measured with standard gemological instruments. The refractometer provides refractive index data, polariscope confirms optical character, dichroscope reveals pleochroism, and spectroscope captures absorption spectra.
The application guides users through proper testing sequences: refractometer shadow edge reading comes first to eliminate stones exceeding the 1.81 limit, followed by polariscope rotation to distinguish singly refractive from doubly refractive specimens, then hydrostatic weighing for specific gravity fingerprinting at precision levels of 0.01 density units.
After navigating the couplet tree, identified species receive origin flags: Natural, Synthetic, or Simulant. The loupe inclusion reference helps distinguish flame-fusion synthetics by curved growth lines, hydrothermal crystals by seed plates, and natural stones by mineral crystal inclusions characteristic of geological formation processes.
Shadow edge reading with precise scale positioning. Measures refractive index from under-limit readings to 1.81 maximum. Birefringence calculation for doubly refractive stones with automatic delta computation.
Rotation-based optic character determination distinguishing isotropic cubic crystals from anisotropic hexagonal and orthorhombic systems. Detects aggregate structures in polycrystalline materials through interference patterns.
Specific gravity measurement protocol using dry weight versus water-immersed weight differential. Precision to 0.01 units enables separation of species with similar refractive indices but distinct density fingerprints.
Absorption spectra capture reveals dark line patterns betraying chromophore elements. Iron lines distinguish almandine garnet, chromium bands identify ruby and emerald, rare earth signatures flag synthetic flux-grown materials.
Side-by-side color window comparison detects directional color variation in anisotropic gems. Strong pleochroism in sapphire and tourmaline contrasts with weak or absent color change in isotropic stones.
10x magnification inclusion library identifies natural versus synthetic origin markers. Octahedral spinel crystals confirm natural ruby, needle networks indicate synthetic flame-fusion, seed plates reveal hydrothermal growth.
